Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is also known as ESWT and ASWT. ESWT stands for extracorporeal shock wave therapy. ASWT stands for acoustic sound wave therapy.

There are two types of ESWT technology for varying applications, focused and radial (rESWT)

Focused Shockwave therapy is used for deep tissue musculoskeletal conditions. The focused technology emits a weak (1-2 Hz) energy pulse. This pulse or sound wave travels up to 12.5 cm into the body. It requires a great deal of patient feedback. This feedback is necessary for pinpoint accuracy on the affected area.

Radial Shockwave therapy has a much wider energy pulse. It reaches a shallower depth, up to 8 cm in RheinLaser machines, compared to focused therapy. Nonetheless, it is more powerful yet can be adjusted to lower frequency settings and requires shorter treatment times. Radial Shockwave therapy offers a wider variety of treatment applications including beauty therapy applications. It can be used at home by athletes in recovery and for muscle strength building under guidance from team physiotherapists.

ESWT started in the 1980s as Lithotripsy. It was initially used in urology for breaking up kidney stones. The UK’s NHS still uses it for this role today.

The lithotriptor attempts to break up kidney stones using an externally applied, focused, high-intensity acoustic pulse

RheinLaser have a huge R&D department overseen by a doctor. One of only two Shockwave therapy machine manufacturers to have such facilities.

Our equipment is built to last and of higher specifications than many of our competitors. All Shockwave machines come with a 2-year warranty on non-consumable parts. You will have the peace of mind that you are buying robust and highly effective equipment for your practice.
